ABORLAN, PALAWAN — The Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA) Philippine Section brightened the lives of residents in Barangay Apurawan, Aborlan, Palawan, with a new community project. The initiative, aptly named "Lights for Hope: A solar post lamp gift to Bgy. Apurawan," culminated in a turnover and installation ceremony on September 20, 2025.
The Pierre Fauchard Academy Philippine Section is part of an international honorary dental organization that promotes service, leadership, and excellence in dentistry. In line with its advocacy of making a difference in communities, the organization provided Barangay Apurawan with solar-powered post lamps, aiming to improve safety and accessibility for the community after dark. The lamps are a sustainable and practical solution, leveraging Palawan's abundant sunlight.
The formal turnover ceremony was led by PFA Chairperson Dr. Tagumpay Poblete Tapawan. She was joined by key partners from the dental community, including Dr. Abel Depano, President of the Cavite Dental Chapter, and Dr. Rachelle May Joson, Counselor of the Tagaytay-Mendez-Amadeo Circle. Also present during the event was the TESDA Palawan Provincial Director Gerardo A. Mercado, who coordinated the project and other personnel and trainees of PTC Palawan that installed the solar post lamp. Their collaborative effort highlights the spirit of bayanihan and the dental profession's commitment to social responsibility beyond clinical practice.
Before the date of the turnover, PTC-Palawan, headed by its Administrator Ms. Javelyn E. Obrero, sponsored a community-based training on Assembly of Solar Night Light and Post Lamp for the residents of the community to equip them on the installation and maintenance of the solar post lamp.
The generous donation was officially received by Barangay Apurawan Chairperson Hon. Danilo Cortez and other members of the barangay council. The council expressed their profound gratitude, noting that the new lighting will significantly benefit the entire community. During the program, the PFA also presented plaques of appreciation to TESDA Palawan for its assistance and to the Barangay Local Government for its support in making the initiative a success.
The "Lights for Hope" project is a testament to the PFA's mission to foster leadership and service among dental professionals, providing a beacon of light for a brighter future in rural communities.
